16 Aug House Panel Votes To Postpone Brgy & SK Elections To December 2023
Mga higala! The House of Representatives Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms has approved bills postponing the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections that were supposed to be held this December 5, 2022!
With this, the said elections will be moved to December 4, 2023.
According to reports, 12 members of the said committee agreed to the postponement and only 2 were against it.
ICYDK, below are some of the reasons brought up regarding why the barangay and SK elections should be delayed:
- to not have 2 divisive elections in a year
- to give teachers enough time to rest after the recent local and national elections
- to set aside enough budget for the polls to COVID-19 response
