As classes open on Monday, June 13, militant organizations are to conduct protests on June 20 to intimidate the government to make an action regarding the estimated one million students that were reported to be displaced due to the implementation of the K to 12 program. The said demonstrations will be held simultaneously elsewhere in the country to be staged by the joint forces of the College Editor’s Guild of the Philippines (CEGP), Kabataan Partylist, Bayan Muna, League of Filipino Students (LFS) and other groups.

The lack of facilities, textbooks, classrooms and chairs in public schools were some of the reasons why 1.5 million students out of 2.5 million students who graduated in high school failed to get enrolled in the K to 12 program, with the government expecting that these students would enroll in private schools. But tuition fees in private schools are expensive to many families.

According to Rochamae Bihag who is the vice president for CEGP-Mindanao, the protests will serve as the groups’ demand for the scrapping of the K to 12 program.

“Mahitabo gayud ang simultaneous protest actions sa administration ni President Duterte kon dili siya maminaw sa among panawagan sa pag-scrap sa K to 12 program,” said Bihag.
