Abu Rami stated through DZMM – radio station, that the Abu Sayyaf was responsible for the blast last Friday evening at the night market in Davao City.

The explosion was a “call for unity to all mujahideen (Islamic guerrilla fighters), in the country” Abu Rami said.

Rami stated that the attack also serves as a warning to Duterte’s administration and that similar attacks should be expected in the coming days.

The Davao attack urged President Duterte to declare a “state of lawlessness,” or “a state of lawless violence” to counter terrorism and strengthen the campaign against illegal drugs.

“While nobody has come up to own the act we can only assume that this was perpetrated by the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf that has suffered heavy casualties in Jolo in the past weeks,” Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana stated in a report by GMA News.

Lorenzana added, “We have predicted this and has warned our troops accordingly but the enemy is also adept at using the democratic space granted by our constitution to move around freely and unimpeded to sow terror.”

Meanwhile, President Duterte stated in Davao City, “I expect retribution from them.”
