25 Jun Abu Sayyaf Strikes Again with 13 Indonesian Tugboat Crew Members Held as Hostages
On Wednesday, June 22, 2016, reports said that the militant group Abu Sayyaf yet seized another group of some 13 Indonesian tugboat crew members off the province of Tawi-Tawi.
The said tugboat with the Indonesian locals was heading to Samarinda in East Kalimantan following a journey from the Philippines when gunmen who introduced themselves as Abu Sayyaf intercepted demanding an amount of 20 million in ringgits for their release. The hostages were then separated into two groups.
Seven of the crew members were identified as Ferry Arifin, Edi Suryono, M.Nasir, Robin Piter, M.Sofyan, M. Mahbrur Dahri and Ismail, from the statement of the boat “Charles OO” owner PT Rusianto Brothers.
However, the Philippine military and police authorities were not immediately available to confirm the mentioned reports.
