Sumalsag Cave is one of the 5 recognized caves in the Palaopao Range of Manolo Fortich and Sumilao. The cave stretches up to 1.04 kilometers long and is full of beautiful stalactites, various rock formations, and underground rivers which are great for spelunking.

So, what are you waiting for higala? It’s time to do something extraordinary! Get off your ass and experience something new! This cave is only 1 hour and 30 minutes away from Cagayan de Oro City.

HOW TO GET THERE?

Follow the steps below by Sir Jhong:

  1. Ride bus in Agora Bus Terminal going to Bukidnon (Malaybalay/Valencia/Maramag) and tell the driver/conductor to stop at Dalirig Elementary School. Fare is 60 pesos (Aircon bus as of November 4, 2018).
  2. From the crossing of Dalirig, ride a habal-habal. Fare 30 pesos (60 if alone) per head going to Kilabong, Vista Villa.
  3. Register at Goay’s Residence (Anjayz Eslao Store) beside Catholic Church near Kilabong Sitio Hall.
  4. Entrance Fee- 20 pesos, helmet rent- 20 pesos and guide fee- 350 pesos per group.

NOTES:

  • Bring your own headlamp and dry bag (for your important things like money, cellphone, jewelry, camera, etc.)
  • Backpacks/bags will be left at Goay’s residence.
  • Claustrophobic, nyctophobic, and hydrophobic persons, and those with big bodies are discouraged to enter the Sumalsag Cave since there are tight spaces to traverse.
  • Sumalsag cave is ok for non-swimmers since you can hold at stalactites and stones in some deep waters.
  • It’s discouraged to enter the cave during heavy rains since some of the waters can go inside. Check the local weather before going there.
  • It’s a 2-3 hour spelunking from the entrance to the exit of the cave, depending on the pacing.
