07 Sep AFP Claims Maute Leader Abdullah Maute Killed in Military Airstrikes
In an article from Bombo Radyo Cagayan de Oro, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has claimed that one of the Maute terrorist group’s leader and founder Abdullah Maute was killed during an airstrike conducted by the military at the battle field in the war torn Marawi City.
The news was confirmed by Western Mindanao Command Commander Major General Carlito Galvez Jr., who was tasked to spearhead the efforts of hunting down rebel-terrorists for more than three months since the siege broke out in Marawi City.
According to Galvez, the death of Abdullah Maute will be a reason for the rebels to slow down their offensive.
He also added that Omar Maute has been wounded while the Maute leader was with Abu Sayyaf Group leader Isnilon Hapilon during their operation.
