AFP Heightened their Forces to Pursue Maute Group Members

On August 28, Sunday, Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla stated that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) heightened their forces to pursue the members of Maute Group who caused the Marawi City Jail attack. (READ: Mass Jailbreak Initiated by the Notorious Maute Group! 23 Prisoners Escaped!)

In an interview with dzBB, Padilla said that photos of the escaped Maute members were already disseminated to all units of government security forces. As he spoke, “[Sa] ating pagtugis ngayon, itinaas na natin ang alert level sa lahat ng mga lugar. [Ang] identification ng mga taong nakatakas pati ng mga nagsagawa ng krimen na ito ng pagkuha sa kanilang mga kasamahan ay naka-distribute na ito, naka-disseminate na.”

Last Saturday, August 27 at 5:40 p.m., there were about 50 suspected Maute members charged to Marawi City jail to rescue their eight comrades who were arrested last August 22 at a checkpoint while riding a vehicle loaded with explosives. During the attack, twenty more inmates escaped from the jail.

The armed suspects apprehended Jail Officer 3 Modasir Manwang. They also took a Mitsubishi vehicle, one M16 rifle, and one M14 rifle.

In Brgy. Caloocan, Marawi City, Manwang was released by the group.
