African Swine Fever Reaches Mindanao: 1,000+ Pigs Dead in Davao Occidental

African Swine Fever

Mga higala! The Department of Agriculture-11 (Davao Region) has confirmed that the African Swine Fever (ASF) has reached Mindanao, and has now caused the death of over 1,000 pigs in the municipality of Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental!

Due to this, Don Marcelino Mayor Michael Maruya ordered a 24/7 temporary lockdown of selling and buying pigs.

This lockdown was recommended by the DA and the Provincial Veterinarian Office as a measure to control the spread of African swine fever and to ensure the safety of consumers.

(ICYDK, the ASF does not pose health risks to humans but can threaten our food supply.)

Below are the barangays in the said municipality affected by ASF:

  1. Linadasan
  2. North Lamidan
  3. South Lamidan
  4. Calian
  5. Mabuhay
  6. Lawa
  7. Nueva Villa
  8. Baluntaya
