15 Jun Aguirre refuses to apologize after insinuating LP’s involvement in Marawi attacks
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, refuses to apologize after he insinuated that some members of the Liberal Party (LP) are behind the violence done by the Maute group in Marawi City.
In an article from Sunstar.com, Aguirre said that he will not revoke his statements but instead will go on in an investigation to probe the truth of the information from which he based his statements so that he will be able to fully perform his duties without missing important points.
It can be recalled that Aguirre implied that the LP officials including Senator Paolo Benigno Aquino, Senator Trillanes IV, Magdalo party-list Representative Gary Alejano, and former presidential adviser Ronald Llamas may be involved in the ongoing crisis in Marawi.
He also showed a photo from his phone portraying the officials to be having a meeting with the members of Lucman and Alonto but this was later found out to be taken in 2015 long before the siege took place.
However, Aguirre said he will still continue with the investigation even if the officials have denied their involvement in the Marawi siege until pieces of evidence will tell their innocence.
