Alfredo Mapano a.k.a “Ka Paris”, a National Democratic Front (NDF) consultant and a former head of the Communist Party in Northern Mindanao who was arrested in August 1, 2009 while visiting his wife and three children in Cagayan de Oro, was released from jail by the Regional Trial Court last August 17, 2016, Wednesday.

It was Judge Florencia Abbu of the Regional Trial Court Branch 17 who ordered the temporary release of Mapano even without the payment of the P100,000 bail money. According to lawyer Francisco del Castillo, Mapano’s counsel, Abbu, who earlier wanted Mapano to pay the bail for the cases of robbery and homicide he faced in her court aside from the bail money he earlier paid to other courts in Malaybalay City where he faced cases of eleven counts of murder, frustrated murder, and carnapping, determined to allow the order after conferring with the Supreme Court on the matter of bail money.

Del Castillo said that that Mapano will fly going to Manila on August 18, 2016, Thursday to get his passports, safe conduct pass, and other necessary documents so he can fly to Oslo.

The release of Mapano is for him to attend the meeting between the government and the NDF to be held in Oslo, Norway this coming August 20, 2016. However, under the terms of conditions of the release, temporary liberty of Mapano will be repealed after the peace talks end.
