Support Center In CDO Successfully Conducts “Induced Lactation” For Adoptive Mother

Mga higala! The ALIMA Mother Support Center in Cagayan de Oro City has recently conducted a successful “induced lactation” for an adoptive mother and her 22-day-old baby!

ICYDK, induced lactation is the official term for making milk without pregnancy and birth, by stimulating the breasts. This aims to help adoptive parents and same-sex couples produce breastmilk for their adopted babies.

According to ALIMA’s post, the said mother came to them to discuss the process and explore options, so that she can try to provide breastmilk for her baby.

“There is no harm in trying. Kung pwede, why not! Kung wala ok lang sad,” said the mother.

ALIMA loved the mother’s commitment and accepted the challenge.

They first conducted a “drip drop method” where the baby was latched on to her for a full hour. They also did a lactation massage.

The first time they tried to express some breastmilk, only a “sweat-like liquid” was extracted from the mother. They then continued with the lactation massage.

After feeling lumps on the breast and increasing the circulation of the massage, they finally expressed several drops of breastmilk from both of the mother’s breasts. Success!

However: “We still have yet to see if we can induce lactation to a full milk supply, partial or none. But the fact that we saw this liquid gold from a mama who did not give birth is enough motivation for me to try.”
