All-out PLASTIC BAN Now Implemented In Cagayan de Oro City, Violators Will Be Penalized

Mga higala! The all-out PLASTIC BAN or Ordinance No. 13378-2010 Integrated Ecobiological Solid Waste Management Ordinance Of Cagayan de Oro was finally started yesterday, January 1, 2019, as part of the city’s steps in preventing its major waste and flooding problems.

This means that stores and vendors are not allowed to use plastics to wrap purchased goods or items. Consumers are also advised to bring “eco-bags,” paper bags, or reusable bags or containers when buying on all markets and grocery stores.

Stores and customers who will violate this ordinance will be penalized.

REMINDER: This is not a “total ban” of cellophane usage. This is a regulation focused on common plastic bags or “sando bags.” Pouch-type cellophane bags, those without handles, can still be used to pack wet goods such as meat, fresh fruits, vegetables and more.
