24 Jun Alleged Bangladeshi Murderer and Human Trafficker Arrested in CDO
On Tuesday, June 21, Asif Iqbal Ahmed, 49, a native of Barisal in Bangladesh has been arrested in his rented apartment in Barangay Lapasan for his murder cases in the United States and other charges in Bangladesh.
Misamis Oriental provincial police office, Insp. Rustico Galagala Jr., Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Force (PAIDSOTF) chief said, “We caught him just as he stepped out of his rented apartment in Lapasan.”
In 1991, Ahmed was the main suspect in the killing of three persons, including his wife, in Rochester, Minnesota.
Also, in Bangladesh, he is facing charges of human trafficking.
In an information sent by the National Central Bureau of the Interpol in Dhaka, Ahmed is reported to have brought 2 friends from Bangladesh to the Philippines and have lured them to give him P29,737 each for an investment they can get in the country.
Later, he had them stay in Igpit in Opol, Misamis Oriental. But after knowing that Ahmed did not make the expectations he has promised to them, both went back to Bangladesh and filed their complaints there against Ahmed.
Here in the country, he was charged with violence against children and women filed by his second wife, Marilyn Sacay. He has been known to have murdered his first wife.
Ahmed denied the accusation and said, “I don’t have a first wife murdered. I don’t know where the charges came from. I have never been to the US. You can check with the Immigration.”
Yet he admitted the case filed against him in Bangladesh and is ready to face the penalties. He said, “If I am really a human trafficker, why couldn’t they stop me while I was marrying? And if I am really a murderer, how can I enter the Philippines and exit my country?”
