Bureau of Animal Industry Detects African Swine Fever On Hotdog, Longganisa, & Tocino Products

Mga higala! According to a clinical laboratory report from the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), three processed meat products- hotdog, longganisa and tocino, tested positive for African swine fever (ASF)!

The virus was detected in samples from the said meat products using a real-time polymerase chain reaction test.

No specific brand or product source was indicated on BAI’s report. However, the Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (Sinag) claimed that the products are most likely imported.

ICYDK, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) released an order just a few days ago, directing local government units (LGUs) in Visayas and Mindanao to lift their ban and allow the entry of uncooked processed meat from Luzon.
