19 Jan LOOK: Bangko Sentral Launches P5,000 Lapu-Lapu Banknote For 500th “Battle Of Mactan” Anniv
Mga higala! The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the National Quincentennial Committee (NQC) have launched the P5,000 Lapu-Lapu Commemorative Banknote to celebrate the 99-day countdown to the 500th anniversary of his victory at the “Battle of Mactan” on April 27, 1521!
ICYDK, Lapu-Lapu fought and defeated a Spanish force led by Ferdinand Magellan on the said day, along the shores of Mactan, Cebu.
BTW, the BSP also launched a commemorative medal.
(Note: Magellan discovered the Philippines on March 16, 1521.)
