Mga higala! The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will be launching the new 20-PESO COIN this coming December 2019, which will officially replace the current P20 bill!
The new coin will then be released into general circulation by early 2020.
In case you don’t know, the coin version was considered after a study by the University of the Philippines found that Filipinos most frequently use P20 bills, leading to the banknote’s early wear and tear.
“The life span of a coin when recirculated is more than 10 to 15 years compared to banknotes which are less than one year,” said earlier this year by BSP Assistant Governor Dahlia Luna.
The BSP is now waiting for the final approval of President Duterte before showing the new 20-peso coin’s new design to the public.
