20 Aug Bangko Sentral Warns Public Against Washing Money To Disinfect vs COVID-19
Mga higala! The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has issued an advisory, reminding the public to avoid soaking or washing coins and banknotes with laundry soap, alcohol, bleach, and other chemicals that can cause damage, in an effort to disinfect it from COVID-19!
According to BSP, these are considered “acts of mutilation or destruction of Philippine currency” and have assigned penalties under Presidential Decree No. 247.
The agency instead recommends the proper disinfection and washing of hands after handling money.
