Barangay Officials in Iligan City Arrested Due to Illegal Cockfighting

In a report from Sun.Star, it was on the afternoon of February 19, 2017, Sunday, when Bunawan barangay captain Efren Semblante, Tomas Cabili chairman and Association of Barangay Council president Cesarve Siacor, and Bunawan Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team member Roque Cobrado got arrested by the authorities after the three of them were caught being involved in unsanctioned cockfighting at Barangay Bunawan. According to Iligan City police director Senior Superintendent Leony Roy Ga, the three mentioned barangay officials were arrested for allegedly promoting and organizing the said illegal activity.

Seized from them were two set of gaffs, 20 fighting cocks, 5 dead fighting cocks, assorted bags, electrical tape, and P2,000 money gambled.

Before the raid, Ga has ordered his men to probe regarding how long the illegal cockfighting has been operating .

Currently, the arrested barangay officials are being detained at the jail facility of Police Station 3 in Iligan City while authorities are appealing for violations of Presidential Decree 449 or the cockfighting law against them.
