BFAR Warns Public Against Collecting Or Eating Fish Found In Coastal Areas Of Villanueva & Tagoloan

Mga higala! The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) of Region 10 has released an advisory yesterday, February 22, 2021, warning the public against harvesting, collecting, selling, and eating fish that were washed ashore in the following coastal areas in Misamis Oriental:

  • Brgy. Balacanas, Villanueva
  • Brgy. Baluarte, Tagoloan

ICYMI, thousands of fish recently washed ashore in the said areas which were collected (and may have been cooked and eaten) by local residents.

According to BFAR, they are still investigating the possible causes of this event and “cannot yet declare if it is fit for human consumption”.

Residents are asked to cooperate and be vigilant regarding this matter. Eating fish like these is unsafe since a variety of factors may have affected the food safety of fish, such as toxins, diseases, or environmental contaminants.
