In a report from Manila Bulletin News, last January 21, 2017, Saturday, a gathering was held at a public high school campus in North Cotabato participated by entrepreneurs and farmers to get updates and support regarding the ongoing negotiations between Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel “Manny” Piñol and executives of Black Donuts Engineering, a Finnish company, with the farmer-participants organized into a nucleus of the National Association of Rubber Farmers (NARF) for the possible establishment of  the tire factory that can provide job opportunities among hundreds of residents and revive the dormant local rubbery industry.

Following the invitation of Piñol, executives of Black Donuts Engineering of Finland visited Mindanao and assessed the region’s rubber industry.

According to the chief executive officer of Black Donuts Kai Hauvala during his recent visit to areas in North Cotabato and Davao, he said that the Philippines has the potential of hosting a tire production facility in the southern part of the country which could manufacture up to 4 million tires every year with R25-billion of expected revenue.

Piñol added that the executives of Black Donuts will return by February to the Philippines to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the leaders of the newly-organized rubber farmers association for the realization of a feasibility study on the tire factory project.
