28 Jul Bureau of Customs-Northern Mindanao Seizes P19 Million Worth of Imported Goods in Tagoloan
With the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in Northern Mindanao intensified its campaign against smuggling in the region’s four seaports run by the government, it seized 5 container vans that yielded contraband worth P19 million in an estimate last July 27, Wednesday, at the Mindanao Container Terminal in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
BOC-Northern Mindanao Customs Intelligence and Investigation Services chief Alvin Enciso lead the opening of the confiscated vans which were found containing imported goods. Found in two of the five container vans were clothing, bedding and footwear from Korea worth P5 million, the other two came from France and Netherlands containing stale pork worth P10 million which showed signs of spoilage, and the other container from the United States contained three classic Mercedes Benz and Porsche valued at P4 million.
According to deputy customs collector Lawyer Roswald Joseph Pague, the said meat from two European countries violated the Food Safety Act of 2013, unfit for humans to consume.
Based on records, the imported goods arrived at the Mindanao Container Terminal in separate shipments last June of this year.
