22 Feb Bridge-Widening Project in Opol Temporarily Stopped Due to Heavy Traffic
Last February 21, 2017, Tuesday, due to the traffic congestion in the town of Opol, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Northern Mindanao decided to temporarily stop the ongoing widening construction of bridge in the said town and prioritize the other project which is in Igpit.
In a report from Sun.Star, the decision of pausing the construction came from the project engineer according to DPWH spokesperson Vinah Mahinay after they received complaints about the heavy traffic along the 2 bridge-widening projects in Opol and in Igpit.
Meanwhile, Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Vicente Emano conveyed his concern regarding the traffic congestion giving the local government unit of Opol a week to solve the problem. When failed, the provincial government will be taking over.
May 2017 is the target completion date of the bridge-widening projects, if there will be no major weather interferences, with these new bridges elevated and expanded to 6 lanes on a 60-meter road-right-of way.
Currently, the old Opol bridge sandwiched between the 2 newly constructed bridges is open for all vehicles to pass through, including these new bridges.
