21 Jul Budget Secretary Bejamin Diokno: Philippines to See Golden Age of Construction in the Next Six Years
Last Wednesday, July 20, 2016, Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno said in a remark, “The next 6 years will be the golden age of Philippine construction,” with the increasing number of government infrastructure projects.
The said projects will be established in all regions “simultaneously and not sequentially” as said by Diokno and that major construction projects of the government will be worked full-time 24/7.
Also, accordning to Diokno, the Duterte administration plans to spend an amount of P890.9 billion, equivalent to 5.2% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), for infrastructure projects all over the country next year, 2017, which includes airports, farm-to-market roads, post-harvest facilities, seaports and bridges.
“Right now, we have the MRT, LRT, LRT2, and then we have the MRT 7. Maybe (eventually) we will need 3 or 4 more lines, and then we need the PNR modernized,” said Diokno. “The airport, within the year, we have to make up our minds, we have to decide where it will be. Clark or Sangley. I think those are the options, unless someone will come up with unsolicited advice. In the meantime, there should be a dedicated highway from Clark to Makati, I think that’s possible.”
