Every August of the year, we commemorate the most celebrated event of Cagayan de Oro, the culture-rich and colorful Kagay-an Festival. It is particularly held on the 28th day of August, which is the feast day of St. Augustine– patron saint of the City of Cagayan de oro. The said festival is an almost three-week celebration due to its series of activities that start even on the first week of August. From pageant competitions, marathons, agricultural trade fairs, cultural street dancing parade, exhibition and sponsored events to patron and fluvial parade, Higalaay Kagay-an Festival has a lot to offer.

For the past years, the city’s festival has been changing identities as administration changes but what’s important is that the grateful celebration still continues up to now and in the hundreds of years to come. This is one glorious event where the Church and city held together to honor the city’s patron Sr. San Agustin.

Last year’s Higalaay Kagay-an Festival 2014 events were Garden Show and Agri Trade Fair, Kagay-an Festival Marathon 2014, Miss Cagayan de Oro 2014, Kagay-an Pyro Festival, Street Dancing Competition, Higalas Parade of Floats and Icons and Civic Military Parade and The Fluvial Parade. For this year, similar events will be expected among local Kagay-anons and loyal tourists that anticipate this grand festival annually but little they know about the new events such as the Kagayhaan Music Festival and the Rafthon– a part of Higalaay Sports Festival 2015 together with Sports and Higalaay Street Party, that will serve as the culminating event of Kagay-an Festival.

Get your calendars marked with the upcoming events in observance for the Kagay-an Festival celebration.
