Cagayan de Oro Plans To Build Human Milk Bank

Mga higala! The City Government of Cagayan de Oro is now planning to build a Human Milk Bank!

This aims to help mothers and babies and further promote the benefits of breastfeeding.

ICYDK, according to UNICEF, “human milk banks provide safe breast milk to infants in emergency situations, such as those who are affected by disasters, are critically ill, or born prematurely.”

A meeting about this human milk bank project was recently conducted by the City Health Department (CHD) together with the following individuals:

  • Dr. Stephanie Denise R. Alagadan—Department of Pediatrics chairwoman (JRBGH)
  • Dr. Rachel Dilla—City Health Officer
  • Nenita Rabe—City Nutrition Action Officer
  • Caroline Cabunoc—focal person of the Infant and Young Child Feeding department
