04 Apr Cagayan de Oro Among Top 5 Cities with Theft Cases Based on Police Records for the Past 5 Years
According to the records as released by the Philippine National Police (PNP) on April 1, among top 5 cities with theft cases is the city of Cagayan de Oro for the past 5 years.
Presented below is the Top 5 Chartered Cities Nationwide Index Crimes (CY 2010-2015) which shows the tallied cases of murder, homicide, theft, carnapping, physical injuries and total index crime cases as reported by the PNP:
Looking at the graph, specifically at the Theft graph, the top 5 cities with theft cases from 2010 to 2015 were Quezon City (27,838), Cebu City (22,513), Manila (21,861), Cagayan de Oro (20,100) and Davao (19,671) when based on crime volume alone. But once population is counted (for every 100,000), the top five changes with the following order: Naga City in Bicol (6,215), Baguio (4,268), Cagayan de Oro (3,338), Iloilo (2,771) and Cebu City (2,599).
Notice that Cagayan de Oro was included among the top 5 cities with theft cases, and even after the population was factored in, it remained and landed on the top 3 position.
With the records, PNP is being challenged. They are seeking for the Oplan Lambat Sibat, a crime prevention attempt using police operations such as checkpoint, mobile patrol and among others, that was launched in 2015 to improve their efforts.
