Mga higala! Cagayan de Oro’s Hapsay Sapa Program, a project aiming to rehabilitate major creeks in the city, has won the 2018 Asian Townscape Award given by the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat).

Hapsay Sapa was initiated in 2014, due to complaints from various residents regarding the foul smell coming from creeks and the increased number of mosquitoes caused by its stagnant waters.

Since then, the project, led by its coordinator- Patrick Gabutina, has turned these creeks into linear parks, improved the lives of the residents living along them, and reduced the risks of possible disasters.

Cagayan de Oro City received the 2018 Asian Townscape Award just this Monday, January 28, from the Asia-Pacific regional office of UN-Habitat.
