Gilas cadet from Cagayan de Oro City, Jiovani Jalalon is included in the Gilas cadet team that will represent the Philippines in the 2016 SEABA Stankovic Cup from May 20-28 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Jalalon is also a member of the 2015 SEA Games champion team.

Here is the list of the 12-man lineup that the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas released and posted on their Facebook page on May 13.

Jalalon who plays for the Arellano University is the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)’s 2015 Most improved Player of the year after he tallies 12.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 2.8 steals.

The 5’9 guard is a flashy player and is a good playmaker to utilize the Gilas cadet’s arsenal of scorers. Arellano Cheif’s coach Jerry Codiñera said, “Nakita mo naman ‘yung team na ‘yung forward position, puro scorers. Isa sa mga nakita siguro sa kanya is ‘yung accurate siya sa mga pasa niya, mature maglaro at willing to learn.”

He was also compared to Asia’s best point Guard and Gilas Pilipinas’ starting Point Guard Jayson “The Blur” Castro because of his speed and versatility despite his modest height. Former Letran Knights guard Kevin Alas said, “Jio’s style of play is similar [to Castro]. I like the way he plays and sets up his teammates.”

Same as Jalalon who jumped from a No. 200 player in the NCAA to be awarded as a Mythical 5; Cagayan de Oro’s pride Carlo Lastimosa also has his strides in the PBA as he is included in the recent PBA conference’s choice of the top 5 players to be pooled as the Best Player of the Conference, which is given to Alaska’s Calvin Abueva this week.

Lastimosa is a late pick in the draft back in 2013, but is now one of the league’s best scorers averaging 21 points per game for the Black Water Elite and is there first scoring option second to none.

Jalalon and Lastimosa are both the newest pride of Cagayan de Oro City in the world of Basketball.
