Mga higala! A man was recently put to jail for violating the Anti-Smoking Law implemented in the beaches of Camiguin Island and after he harassed a pregnant councilor who was scolding him to stop.

According to a post by the councilor, Frances Margaret Aparte, ” I caught this man (who is not from Camiguin) smoking on the beach. I asked him to put it off because it’s prohibited to smoke in all public places, including Coastal Areas/Beaches to prevent cigarettes butts being thrown to the sea. Which poses danger to Marine life and the environment.”

After reminding the man of their smoking ban, Councilor Aparte was surprised when the violator just ridiculed the said law and continued to smoke.

At the time, the man was clueless that Aparte was a councilor of Camiguin, a lawyer, and an Anti-Smoking Task Force Officer. She is also pregnant and was only wearing her normal clothes during the altercation.

Without revealing her identity, she again tried and reminded the man about the Tobacco Regulation and Control Ordinance all over the country and threatened him in calling the police if he didn’t comply with her request. That’s when things escalated and the man rudely replied that “Police? Asa imo police? Police ni Duterte? Tua ra man Manila ang Police ni Duterte? Basin ganahan ka ilubong ta ka og buhi ron?”

The man’s threat triggered Councilor Aparte. She then revealed who she is, contacted the authorities, and had the man detained.
