Car Seats Now Officially Required In PH For Children 12 Years Old & Below In PH

Mga higala! Starting February 2, 2021, children with ages 12 years old and below are now required to be seated in child restraint systems (CRS) or car seats in the backseat of private vehicles!

They are also officially prohibited from riding in the front seat unless they meet the 4’11 height requirement and use proper seat belts.

These new rules are part of the implementation of Republic Act 11229 or the Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act which was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte last year.

Under this law, drivers who will violate the requirements above will receive the following punishments:

  • 1st offense- P1,000 fine
  • 2nd offense- P2,000 fine
  • 3rd offense- P5,000 fine and a 1-year suspension of license
