09 Nov “Caroling Ban” Eyed In Cagayan de Oro This Holiday Season
Mga higala! A “caroling ban” is now being considered in Cagayan de Oro City due to the increasing local cases and the still ongoing threat of the COVID-19 pandemic!
According to a post by Stephen Capillas, Mayor Oscar Moreno has expressed that elders should find alternative ways to cheer up their kids this holiday season.
“Di man pwede mag-caroling ang mga bata kay naa man COVID-19. Maayo unta ang maninoy mangita pamaagi nga mohatag sa ilang (godchildren) (Children cannot go caroling because there is still COVID-19. It’s better for the elders to find ways to give to their godchildren). It’s up to us to find ways for the children to enjoy Christmas just like we did when we were young despite the restrictions,” said Mayor Moreno.
ICYDK, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año has recently announced that he will recommend the “banning of Christmas caroling nationwide” because– “Based on studies and statistics, the spread of COVID-19 is more likely to occur in mass singing like choir and caroling because singers have to remove their masks as they sing and viruses are released through aerosols.”
Joint Task Force COVID Shield commander Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar also backed this proposal and is just waiting for the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID).
(How about you? What do you think higala?)
