Baristas in Cagayan de Oro City showcased their skills in latte art making last Sunday, August 6, in the Latte Art Throwdown 2017 competition held at the Ayala Centrio Mall Activity Center.

In an article from Sunstar Cagayan de Oro, Latte Art Throwdown is organized by the Mindanao Barista Community, the Jamaican F&B Training Center Incorporated, the Barista Starter Pack, and the Filipino Bartending/Barista Innovators in Mindanao as part of the activities for this year’s Higalaay Festival and to create one event that will represent the thrill and excitement of latte art making.

Different coffee shop owners and baristas in the city were invited to grace the event and to perform a latte art exhibition.

The competition is divided into Professional and Student categories wherein fifteen participants came from Jamaican F&B Training Center for the Student Category and seventeen baristas came from some of the few renowned coffee shops in CdeO such as Krispy Kreme, Coffeeholic, Cafe Pilar, JCO, Mai Craft, Espressini among others.

The contestants were judged according to the definition or the clarity of the latte image, aesthetic beauty, symmetry, degree of difficulty, and creativity of their latte artworks.

After deliberation and judging, Carlven Agbayani was proclaimed champion in the student category while Carlitos Candido from Mai Craft emerged as the winner in the professional category.
