With the theme, “Moving Forward for Responsible Journalist for a Change”, different media practitioners in Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Oriental commenced the 35th year celebration of the National Press Freedom Week on Monday, May 22.

In an article from Sunstar.com, the week-long celebration is spearheaded by the Cagayan de Oro Press Club (COPC) and was participated in by different media organizations such as the Misamis Oriental- Cagayan de Oro Association of Newspaper Publishers (MOCAP), Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP)-Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental, Philippine National Police Press Corps, the Regional Association of Government Communicators (RAGCOM), Media Health Advocates, and the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP).

Phillip Ken Jaudian, this year’s National Press Freedom Week overall chairman, said that the main goal of the event is to bridge the gap between media people who have conflicting ideologies and encourage them to put more dedication into their work as one media industry.

Different activities were also seen by participants and spectators alike such as the motorcade and courtesy visits at different important city government halls on Monday and the press freedom mass at the Press Freedom Monument near the Provincial Capitol Grounds today at 5 pm.

A lecture on Law on Libel was also conducted on Monday with provincial legal adviser Atty. Gil Banaag.

Throughout the week, several other activities will be conducted like the bloodletting on Wednesday and a two-day sports fest for media practitioners on Thursday and Friday.

The culminating of the activities will be held at the Grand City Hotel on Saturday, May 27.
