Police forces in Cagayan de Oro City are now on full alert for any suspicious activities that might spark another terrorism scare. Such heightened alert is directed against those who are suspiciously buying bulks of materials that are commonly used as raw parts in building Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

In an article from DavaoToday, Philippine National Police (PNP) Northern Mindanao Office Spokesperson, Supt. Lemuel Gonda reminded the public to be alert at all times so that they will be able to determine strange activities of individuals particularly those who are buying wires, relays, capacitors, batteries, and even series lights, bolts, and nails, as these could be used to make IEDs.

The measure is also a response to President Duterte’s previous announcement of some major areas in Mindanao where Cagayan de Oro City might be one of those places that will experience terrorism scares.

It is also one of the moves seen by the government to prepare the possible retaliation of the remaining members of terrorist groups who laid siege in Marawi City after the death of Maute leader, Omar Maute, and Abu-Sayyaf leader, Isnilon Hapilon.

Captain Joe Patrick Martinez, Spokesperson of the Philippine Army’s 4th Infantry Division, said that military forces are now ready for any unlikely events to happen as they are also maintaining close coordination with other law-enforcement government agencies.
