07 Jun CdeO schools accept students who fled clashes in Marawi
Pupils and students who fled the continued clashes between the Philippine military and the Maute terrorist group in Marawi City have been accepted by some private and public academic institutions in Cagayan de Oro City.
In an article from Sunstar.com, Jun Bayete of the Planning and Research Division of the Department of Education (DepEd)-Cagayan de Oro said there are at least 408 grade school pupils and 169 high school students from Marawi City who are currently studying in the city.
It is also expected that this figure could still change depending on the numbers of displaced families affected by the current situation in Marawi which appears to be increasing.
The students who were studying at schools in Marawi City in the previous school year are allowed to enroll in academic institutions in CdeO even without the necessary documents for official admission with due confirmation from DepEd’s Learner’s Information System (LIS) that they are amongst the Marawi evacuees.
Among the institutions that are accepting students from families displaced by the ongoing standoff are Cagayan de Oro National High School and City Central School.
