CdeO Task Force Investigates Sanitary Landfill Controversy

Davao Today

An article by bomboradyo.com stated that the CdeO Task Force assured a fair investigation will be conducted for the issues of contamination caused by the new sanitary landfill in the rivers of Brgy San Simon, Cagayan de Oro City.

The main objective of the task force is to prove the validity of complaints regarding the sudden illness of 30 residents after bathing in the said river. According to these victims, toxic wastes are leaking from the landfill currently located in Brgy. Pagalunan.

Councilor Suzette Magtajas-Daba has already called for the swift enforcement of the task force. She requested that in order to avoid further casualty, the investigation of the landfill and Iponan River should start immediately.

On the other hand, the City Local Environment and Resources Office (CLENRO) are glad that the government has acted on this issue. CLENRO Officer Edwin Dael already revealed once before that certain bacterias exist in the waters near the landfill. But he was ignored because the said bacterias were present at a normal level of concentration.

Dael expressed that he is confident the investigation will yield honest results. And hopefully, no more harm will occur to our environment and fellow Kagay-anons due to problems like this.
