30 May CdeO tennis player wins in Singapore Open Week 1
Kagay-anon and Dutch duo Francis Casey Alcantara and Dutch Sem Verbeek won over their Japanese rivals in the first week of the USD15,000 Singapore Open International Tennis Federation (ITF) in Kallang Tennis Centre, Singapore.
Combining the forces of the two countries, Alcantara from Philippines and Verbeek from The Netherlands swept past Japanese tennis talents from the quarter-finals up to the final rounds.
In the semifinals, Alcantara and Verbeek smashed down Issei Okamura and Arata Onozawa who securing scores of 6-3, 6-4.
During the quarterfinals, the toughest round reached by the Dutch-Filipino tandem so far, they crushed any advances initiated by Japanese duo Ken Onada and Masato Shiga and managed to record 6-3, 5-6 (10-3).
In the final round, Alcantara and Verbeek blocked the ways of Hiroyasu Ehara and Sho Katayama to snatch the championship spot and got through all the way to the top with 6-3, 6-2.
After their victory, there is no resting for Alcantara and Verbeek as they will be competing again with another set of games starting this Tuesday.
