13 Jul Cagayan de Oro City’s Mary Aubrey Calma Hailed as Champion in Cebuana Lhuillier’s Tennis Tournament

In the recently concluded Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Championships 2016 Series Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte; Cagayan de Oro’s pride, Mary Aubrey Calma shined in the competition as she was hailed as the champion in both the 16 & Under Girls and 18 & Under Girls categories.

The tournament happened last July 7-11 at the Cabadbaran City Tennis Association (CCTA) Club in Agusan del Norte.
In the 16 & Under Girls category, Mary Aubrey Calma defeated Sydney Ezra Enriquez of Salug, Zamboanga del Norte, who is also the title holder for the 14 & Under Girls category. The set went 6-4, 7-5 ending in a victory for Calma.
Also, Calma recognized as the champion for the 18 & Under Girls category after defeating fellow Kagay-anon Gennifer Lysandra Pagente from Corpus Christi School. The match went 6-1, 6-2.

Pagente is the early favorite for the title, but Calma has shown that her skills can compete even against the best.
Tournament director in ITF-licensed referee Mario Inguito Craiz said, “While she was also a winner last year, Calma’s pair of victories in the singles events was very surprising as she made it at the expense of tough rivals especially the pre-tournament favorite Pagente.”
