“We make it a habit for the past three years to do this, the Senior Citizen Week,to honor the elderly members of our community. I think that activities like these are very important for them because it is one of their chances to socialize in the sunset years of their lives,” said head of the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) Eugenio Atrigenio.

Meanwhile, CSWD officer-in-charge Teodoro Sabuga-a Jr. said that the senior citizens in the city can expect other projects and programs from the current government adding that a planned home for the elderly is to be constructed in the near term. It is a new home which is promised to feature better facility suited for the elderly, and by next year, it will be finished.

However, with regards to the elderly persons’ privileges such as the 20 percent discount in their purchases, Sabuga-a said that there may be problems with it and currently their office is fixing it.

Wards that are only for male and female senior citizens are being planned by the CSWD to be available in the hospitals in the city.

The event not only awarded the centenarians but there were also solo singing contests, choral singing contests, boogie dance contests and raffle draws for the senior citizens who attended the event.
