22 Mar CDO City Engineer’s Office to install LED lights in major streets
In an article from Sun Star Cagayan de Oro, in order to help save energy and reduce the cost of lighting in Cagayan de Oro City’s major streets, the old sodium lights will be replaced with light emitting diode (LED) lights as stated by City Engineer Rolando Pacuribot.
The rationale of this project is to place LED lights in all streets, whether it will be on an urban area or a remote area of the city.
He further added that the P19.5 million-worth installation have already started in Capistrano Street, Tiano St., Osmena St., parts of Iponan Village, and in Mastersons Avenue, Upper Carmen.
In light with this, City Councilor Edna Dahino appreciated this project as this could help lessen crime incidence in the city. She claimed that dim streets could be an aid for criminals to attack. She also cited the incident at the JR Borja Bridge wherein a working student was raped and killed by five persons who were reportedly drunk before the crime happened. She said that the lack of streetlights at the bridge were one of the causes of this incident.
Dahino is the chairperson of the committee on women and family relations and supports the anti-criminalities programs of the recent administration.
