15 Feb CDO Gov’t Employee Caught Extorting Money from Amusement Park Operator
In an entrapment operation, a city government employee was apprehended for allegedly exacting money from an amusement park operator.
According to a report from ABS-CBN News, the suspect was identified as John Laro alias Jun Lazaro, 46 years old, who is confirmed to be working as a Special Investigator III in the City Legal Office of the Cagayan de Oro City Hall.
The police have conducted the operation after Rosalie Castillo, owner of a small amusement park at Barangay Macabalan complained concerning the extortion case.
Castillo said that Laro urged her to give P5,000 for the amusement park to continue operating. She added that failure to do so, then the permit will be canceled. It was the already the third time that the suspect extorted money from her.
Meanwhile, the suspect refused to give a statement regarding the assertions against him.
The police have also said that they have received more reports from the other victims who intend to formally file extortion complaints against the suspect.
