25 Jun CDO Police To Arrest Tambays Drinking in Public Starting This Week
Mga higala! Police Director Supt. Nelson Aganon has ordered officers to apprehend tambays or loiterers drinking alcoholic beverages in the public areas of Cagayan de Oro City.
Based on a report by Sunstar, this order was issued last Friday, June 22, in the headquarters of Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO), after the authorities acquired a city ordinance disallowing the consumption of alcoholic beverages in public places. This will include public plazas, parks, roads, sidewalks, and alleys of the city and its barangays except on official functions or occasions duly authorized or approved by the barangay council, village chief, or the city mayor.
According to the mentioned ordinance, it has been observed that public areas used as a venue by tambays for liquor drinking sessions and sprees are not only unsightly and offensive against public decency but, in some cases, this would also result to various problems for the community and its residents.
Violators will be punished with a penalty of imprisonment of one to four months or a fine of P500 to P1,500 or both fine and imprisonment at the discretion of the court.
