Cagayan De Oro Considered as a Prominent City for BPO Industry

Information and communications technology city council president, Stephanie Caragos disclosed that the Cagayan de Oro City is considered by many Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) as a potential BPO destination in Northern Mindanao.

Caragos stated, “Today, there are at least 15 BPO companies operating in Cagayan de Oro and employing some 2,000 agents.”

She added, “In the future, 5,000 siguro ang atong ma-employ which is a very good number for employment here in Cagayan de Oro.”

Last week, Caragos together with BPO heads discussed with city Mayor Oscar Moreno considering Cagayan De Oro as a prominent hub for the BPO industry.

Cagayan de Oro has been recognized as one of the “next wave cities” according to Caragos.

Caragos stated, “We passed the scorecard which means we passed the factors that include the number of graduates we produce, quality of education here, peace and order, infrastructure, local government support and collaboration of all key players here, not to mention the cost of living and cost of operations. This propelled us to attract more investors.”

Chief executive officer of Envizion Philippines, Yasushi Nishijo indicated that they aim to develop and expand in the city adding that Cagayan de Oro City has “young and talented people.”

On September 1, Envizion Philippines held its opening being Cagayan de Oro’s first ever office-based English tutorial service. Their office is located at Lifestyle District in Cagayan de Oro City.

Envizion is a Japan-based company that provides one-on-one direct and online English tutorial to Japanese students.

Azpired vice-president, Almira Absin said that the city has the best infrastructure and has the skilled and finest workers.

On September 18, Sunday, Azpired also opened its 600-seating capacity contact center.

Martin Antonio, Teleperformance assistant manager for external relations also said that the city is appealing to BPO companies as it holds numerous of schools, perceived as a potential labor force and was deemed as a financial center in the region.

On the other hand, Mayor Moreno assured to secure peace and order, engage more in education and infrastructure, and expand resiliency programs.

The city mayor stated, “For as long as you show your competitiveness and your edge, then we’ll be in a good place. Cagayan de Oro has many advantages, I’m sure investors are aware of this. It’s very strategic, it’s the logistics hub, the trade and education center, medical center, all of these cities in Mindanao is within 500 kilometers from Cagayan de Oro, so I can say it’s the most strategically located city in Mindanao.”

He added, “We should also be reminded that we as well have a duty not only to our customers, but we owe it to the whole region. As we move forward, we should ensure that everybody in the region walks with us.”
