10 Aug CHED approves mandatory drug testing for college student applicants
In an article posted by CNN Philippines, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) permitted all the higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Philippines to conduct a mandatory drug testing starting in the school year 2018-2019.
Memorandum order No. 64 that was signed by Chairperson Patricia Licuanan last Wednesday, August 2, serves as the commission’s support for the government’s war on drugs.
HEI’s are encouraged to implement the memorandum as part of their institutional requirements for student admission and retention policies though they are not obliged to do so.
However, the Department of Health (DOH) reminded that only DOH-accredited drug facilities, physicians, and private medical can only administer the drug tests.
The drug tests also come with the condition that HEI’s are not allowed to post the results, whether negative or positive and are highly confidential.
