12 Aug PNP Chief Dela Rosa: Illegal Gambling is Next In Line
On August 11, Thursday, Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General said that campaign against illegal gambling will be their next priority once they’re done with their anti-illegal drugs operation. As he spoke during a speech in General Santos City, “You just wait. After 6 months, if we win our campaign against illegal drugs, we will shift our efforts. We’ll hit illegal gambling.”
Over 500 drug suspects have been executed in more than 4,700 police operations across the country. Dela Rosa as the general chief leads the PNP in its 6-week old campaign, as what President Duterte vowed to stop illegal drugs, crime, and corruption.
As the president publicly named the politicians, police officers and judges who are suspected to be involved with illegal drugs. More than half a million drug users and pushers surrendered and over 7,000 suspects who were arrested.
Thousands of those named personalities surrendered themselves to the PNP Chief at Camp Crame, PNP headquarters hoping to clear their names.
Before Dela Rosa was appointed to be the Director General, gambling lords from Luzon to Manila offered millions to protect their businesses. Offering millions to PNP chiefs from gambling lords is “institutionalized” as defined by Dela Rosa.
“Itinanong ko si Presidente, ano sir? Tanggapin ko ito? Sayang, pera rin ito,” Dela Rosa jokingly asked President Duterte. And the president replied, “’wag na, tanggapin mo ‘yan, wala ka. Matali kamay mo.”
The police general will be persistent once the PNP begins its campaign against illegal gambling.
“’Di talaga ako tumanggap. Never. So ngayon kilala ninyo ‘yung mga lord, naguumpugan na ‘yung ulo kung paano ako babayaran. Sabi ko, ako po’y isang pulis probinsya lamang. Mababa lang ang pangangailangan ko sa pera,” Dela Rosa ended.
