27 Dec Christmas Storm Nina left 4 dead, 8 missing – 400,000 evacuated
Thousands of Filipinos have celebrated Christmas this year in evacuation centers as Typhoon Nina pummeled through Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas, making eight landfalls in 24 hours.
Four people were left dead in Bicol and eight capsized vessel off Batangas leaving eight missing. On Christmas day, electricity went out in five provinces as several power lines were brought down by the strong winds of the typhoon.
According to a Philippine Star report, close to 400,000 evacuated from their homes and sought refuge to evacuation camps.
Nina is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Wednesday morning according to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration.
