New City Museum Annex Building in CDO, Groundbreaking on October 27

To mark the formal launching of the celebration for the 4th Centennial of Cagayan de Oro’s founding as a settlement that has since been a decade-long already, the Cagayan de Oro Historical and Cultural Commission is going to hold a two-day event this week.

“Forum Kagay-anon 390 is a 10-year program that will usher in the fourth centennial of the founding of the city’s original settlement in the Barangay 1 area,” Hiscom chair Dr. Erlinda Murtons said adding that they are inviting their stakeholder-volunteers to actively take part in the said event. “This will be a marketplace for our cultural heritage and for sale will be pictures, handicrafts, heritage foods and snacks for the enjoyment of our people.”

The Higaonon Tribe Dancers & Craftsmen from Malasag Eco-Village as led by Datu Masikal, Arts & Crafts by local artists/artisans coordinated by Nonoy Estarte and Nic Aca, Higaonon Basket ware and Beadwork Livelihood Project led by the City Tourism chair Dorothy Jean B. Pabayo and Bae Rose Undag, books of oldthe stylized Street Food of VIP Hotel’s Calle Cafe, and postcards/photos, books of Old Cagayan de Oro for Tsada Awards Carlos “Nene” Arce.

To follow the opening of the Tabo sa Kabilin is the Paseo sa Kabilin which is a tour of the city’s three museums and the heritage areas of Gaston Park and Plaza Divisoria by the Hiscom commissioners and stakeholders. This includes the Capitol University Museum of 3 Cultures, Xavier University Museo de Oro and Liceo de Cagayan University La Castilla Lifestyle Museum. Also, part of the half day itinerary os the walking tours of historic Plaza Divisoria, Gaston Park-Cagayan de Oro Metropolitan Cathedral area, and the City Museum.

The groundbreaking for the new City Museum Annex Building is going to be the highlight of the said two-day event which is on October 28, 2016, Friday, adjacent lot of the Cagayan de Oro City Museum. Then a blessing to be rendered by Hiscom Vice-Chair Fr. Daniel Coronel, SSJV, and the planting of 100 lambago tree seedlings in Duaw Park will follow in coordination with the Hiscom, City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office, CLENRO and Safer River, Life Saver Foundation, and the City Tourism Council.
