19 Sep Trail Masters Off Road Duathlon Series to be Held in Cagayan de Oro City – Columbia Sportswear and Transition Productions Hold Media Launch
Columbia Sportswear and Transition Productions held a media launching and press conference last September 9, 2016 at the High Ridge in Upper Macasandig.
Being launched is the Mindanao leg of the Trail Masters Off Road Duathlon Series, a grueling mountain bike and marathon run with a total distance of almost 40 kilometers. This is the first time Cagayan de Oro has been selected for the Trail Masters Series.
High Ridge was selected for the media launching and press conference because the restaurant will be the starting point and end point of the Duathlon.
The actual Trail Masters Off Road Duathlon will be on September 25, 2016, with gun start at 6:00 a.m. at High Ridge and Upper Macasandig. The Mindanao leg of the Duathlon is coming off the recent Luzon and Visayas legs in San Mateo, Rizal, and Iloilo City respectively.
Speaking for the event was Mr. Dennis Yap, event organizer from Transition Productions. This was followed by various Columbia Sportswear branch and area managers in discussing about the running and biking gear and outfits to be worn, of course, courtesy of Columbia Sportswear.
Covering the media launching event were representatives from various media outlets and the city’s top bloggers such as Sunstar Daily, Business Week Mindanao, Manila Bulletin, TV 5, About Cagayan de Oro, Ms. Irene Aserios, Mr. Vic Marion Go Madriaga, and Mr. Tom Udasco.
It is estimated that, even as registration for the event is still going on, more than a hundred professional and amateur racers will find this Duathlon quite a challenge. In comparison to the Luzon and Visayas legs of the Duathlon, the Cagayan de Oro Duathlon race area is smaller, but the rough dirt roads coupled with the steep climbs and drops of the roads and terrain will really give racers a run for their money. The prepared routes for the alternating marathon and mountain biking will cover portions of barangay Macasandig and Indahag.
According to Yap, the first part of the race will be a 6 kilometer trail run, followed by a 30 kilometer mountain bike trail, to be concluded by 3 kilometer trail run. The almost 40 kilometer run will definitely test every participant’s physical endurance and rigor. It is estimated that the whole course will take around 4 hours to finish.
Since only 150 slots have been allotted, this early, racers from Cebu, Davao, Butuan, and Lanao del Norte have already registered. Team Lanao del Norte alone will field 40 participants. Large cash prizes await the top 3 overall winners in both male and female categories.
Basic mechanics for the Duathlon are as follows:

Columbia Sportswear Company
This Cedar Mill, Oregon, U.S. based company manufactures and distributes sportswear and outerwear such as winter wear, footwear, headgear, camping equipment, skiwear, and outerwear accessories. It is now America’s largest seller of ski apparel. Columbia started as a small hat distributor in 1937 in Nazi Germany. When the owners fled Nazi Germany, they opened the business as the Columbia Hat Company in the U.S., named from the nearby Columbia River. In 1960, the owners decided to manufacture their own products rather than depend on suppliers, and they transitioned to Columbia Sportswear Company.
Columbia has been known for its jackets that feature waterproof fabric that is also breathable. The more modern jackets feature interchangeable shells and liners, multiple wearing options, and new fabric technology. Between 2000 and 2006, after acquiring a few footwear and outerwear makers, Columbia opened its new line of outdoor apparel and camping gear.
Since 2008, Columbia sponsors a men and women’s cycling team at the Tour de France called “Team Columbia.” Columbia Sportswear now distributes its products to more than 72 countries totaling around 13,000 retailers. In Cagayan de Oro City Columbia Sportswear and Apparel has stores in Limketkai Center Mall and Ayala Centrio Mall.
