Mga higala! The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is now considering banning politicians from conducting face-to-face campaigning activities for the Philippines’ May 2022 elections!

This is due to the still ongoing threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Spokesperson James Jimenez, the following may be prohibited:

  • giving out of election materials (flyers, posters, etc.)
  • face-to-face talks (speeches, meetings)
  • door-to-door campaigning

The COMELEC is now coordinating with the IATF regarding this ban and may instead promote online campaigning. Watch out for updates higala!
