Confiscated Imported Merchandise are to be Auctioned by BOC-NorthMin

Confiscated imported goods for the past few months are to be auctioned by the Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Northern Mindanao. This is to clear up the Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) yard in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental which is now covered with imported loads.

Two Mercedes Benz and a Porsche worth P4 million that are to be auctioned was supposedly shipped for Rudolf Golez according to BOC-Northern Mindanao.

In a report, Golez said that the seizure of the vintage vehicles was just a minor violation and was intended for a museum collection in a school they owned.

The auction will be held on September 8 at MCT as announced by Marvin Mison, the auction chairman. A variety of merchandise in about 50 container vans will be opened and be available for selling.

Three days prior to the auction, there will be a public viewing of the merchandise for possible bidders, Mison stated.

Two days before the auction date, interested bidders must register to the BOC-Northern Mindanao and submit a cash bond or a manager’s check with 10% of the total amount of the desired item.

Owners of the auctioned merchandise are not allowed to participate in the bidding, said Lawyer Roswald Joseph Pague, deputy customs collector. As he spoke, “Dili i-allow kay para dili kita maka-set ug precedent for future nga cases like this. We will not allow and tolerate the practice.”

The bidding will be held at the BOC’s Macabalan office.

Estimated value of the items including the luxury cars is worth P25 million and has been forfeited in favor of the government, Pague stated.

Earnings of the auction will be contributed to the district’s monthly income, Pague added.

Motor vehicle parts from Japan and Korea that worth P10 million were recently seized by the BOC-Northern Mindanao’s Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service.

The importer did not properly declare the vehicle parts according to BOC-Northern Mindanao. The agency then immediately confiscated the items.

In inspecting imported shipments that arrive at the MCT sub-port, the agency asked assistance from Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s K9 unit to boost security in the port against illegal drugs.

The cooperation of PDEA will guarantee drug-free local ports in line with the administration’s campaign against the illegal drugs, BOC-Northern Mindanao district Collector Ruby Claudia Alameda said.
